Medicare can provide some limited skilled nursing home care benefits under Part A. During the first 20 days of a benefit period, you pay $0.  From days 21-100, you pay $152 per day.  Days 101+, you're responsible for all costs. Medicare.gov provides a list of each specific covered service and eligibility conditions that need to be met for Medicare to cover nursing home care expenses.

Medicaid can help pay nursing home expenses for Medicare beneficiaries.

Long term care insurance is going to provide the greatest nursing home benefits.  These policies are designed for long-term stays (e.g. 3, 4, or 5 years).
