    The application process for individuals applying under their initial open enrollment period can be completed on the social security website, ssa.gov. If you're applying under a special enrollment period, I would recommend completing the paperwork at your local social security administration office. It can generally take about 3-4 weeks for the paperwork to be processed and for you to receive your Medicare card (sometimes longer depending on their volume and time of the year).
