For most people, Medicare Part A is "free". If you or your spouse worked in the Social Security system for at least 10 years and have lived in the United States during the last 5 years your Medicare Part A is offered with no premium charged to you. Medicare Part A is free if you have worked at least 10 years and paid Social Security taxes into the system. In other words for most people Part A is free. The Medicare Part B premium is $121.80 for anyone new to Medicare this year. If you are single and your adjusted gross income is more than $85,000 or married and more than $170,000 you will pay a higher premium for Part B and Part D, prescription drug coverage.
