    I am not sure what you mean by private insurance.

    If you are disabled and under age 65 and have been on SSDI for two years you are eligible for Medicare. As such you should consider a Medigap plan or possibly Medicare Advantage.

    If private insurance refers to an employer group plan, that plan plus Medicare coordinate with each other to pay a significant portion of your medical bills.
