Medicare will approve or disapprove the use of mobility devices based on the ability of the beneficiary. From what I have seen, it depends on the person who looks at the claim whether it is approved or not.Answered on May 20, 2013flag this answer
- 2330 POINTSview profileSteve AdlmanOwner, Alabama Medicare Plans, Birmingham, AlabamaMedicare Part B covers durable medical equipment which includes wheelchairs (manual and power). Your doctor has to submit a written order to Medicare stating that a wheelchair is medically necessary. If you can't operate a manual wheelchair you may qualify to get a power wheelchair. Once again that will be up to your doctor in his written orders to Medicare. Medicare will pay 80% on a wheelchair and if you have a Medicare Supplement it will pay the other 20%.Answered on April 29, 2016flag this answer
