Renters insurance covers personal property any where in the world and your iPhone is considered personal property. Most policies provide coverage up to 10% if your item is stolen or damaged by a covered loss if the item is away from your principal residence. For example, if your policy covers up to $30,000 you would have up to $3,000 coverage for personal property away from your apartment.

Before you file the claim, check your deductible because if your deductible is $500 and the iPhone is worth $600 it probably isn't worth filling a claim.
