Lightning damage is covered under the standard renters policy, referred to as the HO-4. If you have that policy, there is coverage for a loss caused by the peril of lightning. In the renters policy, the coverage is for damage to the policyholder's personal property, subject to payment limitations on certain personal property such as furs and jewelry, as stated in the HO-4.
To increase coverage amounts that are limited on the stated items, additional amounts of insurance can be purchased, typically in the form of scheduled items.
