Renters Insurance is designed to cover your personal possessions versus the physical building you are staying in.  If something was to happen to your apartment for example, renters insurance would probable be the only way you can get money to replace what was lost.

And you will need to be careful with how the policy is put together.  Will it pay you the "value" of the property lost or "replacement" value of the property?  There is a huge difference so be aware.
