Niether homeowners or renters insurnace will cover flood damage under normal circumstances. To get flood insurance coverage it must be purchased from a carrier that is appointed bye the federal government. Only select carriers provide flood insurance coverage and agents must be appointed with one of those carriers to be able to sell flood insurance coverage.

A standard Renters Insurance policy, like any standard property policy, will not include coverage for damage that results from a flood.  This type of loss is always excluded in such policies and can only be obtained by purchasing a Flood Insurance policy. This is a federally funded program managed by FEMA and such policies are more than likely available through your Insurance Professional.
