To become a car insurance broker you will need to complete your states pre-licensing requirements and then take the state licensing exam.

Once you pass the exam you will have your license issued, pending satisfactory review of your background check.

Access to insurance carriers is more restricted when it comes to home and auto insurance vs. some othe lines of insurance, so you are best served to find a career position with a major carrier, or work as an assistant for a well established agent.  This will give you the ability to eventually access independent carriers directly.
