Good grades often equates to good drivers (but not all of the time). For that reason, most car insurance companies discount your rate if youthful drivers are earning a "B" average for the most recent grading period.

The amount of the discount is typically 10%-20% and over the lifetime of the policy, it could save you thousands of dollars.

Along with what Mr. Harris said, it's important to note that the "good grades" discount offered by most carriers will work all the way through college.  If your child is still on your insurance plan and is receiving a "B" average in college (4 year or community) ask your agent if you can submit their transcript.  It usually doesn't have to be an official transcript, just a print out from their university's website.  It doesn't hurt to ask if you're not sure!

Yes many carriers will provide an additional discount for drivers on the policy that are able to achieve a 3.5 gpa or above for one semester or more. The amount of this discount is up to the carrier and will typically require some proof of the achieved gpa. This proof is normally a copy of the semester transcript from the school.

They most certainly do qualify you for an additional discount. Many companies view responsibility in other aspects of life as an indicator towards your driving habits. If you or an insured member are getting good grades, be sure to mention it when speaking with your agent if they did not already have this conversation.
