    In the same way that you can jump out of an airplane without a parachute, you can drive a car without auto insurance. The chances of either being a successful experience will be the result of “dumb luck.” Why would you want to take a 2000 pound missile out into the public, knowing that it could maim or injury anyone that it hit, and not protect yourself against the economic consequences of that action?

    Driving a car without insurance depends on your jurisdiction. In Maryland any owned and registered vehicle must be insured. The penalties for owning and registering a vehicle without insurance is $150 for the first 30 days and $7 per day there after for as long you remain uninsured. This penalty will follow you even if you move to another state. Any tax refund will be intercepted to pay the penalty
