Generally speaking you do not need car insurance to rent a car.  Most car rentals offer short term insurance coverage that you can purchase at the time you rent the car.

The Laws in Montana are Different Brandon. You must have your own insurance policy even if it is a non owned policy. The rental companies will sell you insurance but is for  the comp and collision portion. I insure many rental car business across the state and none of them will rent you  a car unless you have at least liability on your own.

Yes you can purchase insurance from that does include liability and comp and collision. We always recommend you purchase from a rental company the coverage they offer that way in the event of a claim it doesn't effect your personal auto insurance.
