    Whether you find an agent local to you, or find an agent online, be sure to request quotes from multiple carriers. One of the benefits of not working with an agent who solely represents one company is that you can shop around to find the best policy for you.  Don't forget, the best policy isn't necessarily the cheapest or the most expensive. Make sure your agent explains the policy provisions clearly because not everyone needs every rider or true own occ. Don't be afraid to ask specific questions.  Even if your agent doesn't know the answer, he can get it quickly from the underwriter.

    How to choose disability insurance? Well, first thing you check before rates and dollars paid out is the "definition" of disability. This is the only thing that matters as if you do not meet the definition of disability the policy will not pay out. The next is how long does the duration of the definition of disability last? Is it different durations for different disabilities? A policy is only as good as the definitions it pays from. Words are so very important with disability insurance. Unlike life insurance where death pretty much determines the payout, disability has to meet a definition within the policy to be paid out.
