    Yes disability can be a business expense that is deducted for income tax purposes.  If someone chooses to do this, than benefits paid by the disability insurance policy will be realized as taxable income, and the recipient of the benefits will need to pay income taxes on those benefits.

    If instead, the premiums are not deducted, then benefits are received tax free.
