    No, workers compensation is not the same as disability insurance.  Workers compensation insurance is insurance purchased by an employer to cover employees who become injured on the job and as result can no longer work.  It provides income benefits to the covered employee while they are out of work.

    Disability insurance covers an individual regardless of the time place and manner of the event that prevents them from working (i.e. it does not have to happen at work).  Disability insurance is also generally set up to cover a larger amount of lost income.
