    The company that issues the private Disability Insurance policy is the company that covers the payments of individual Disability Insurance benefits. If the company is bought by another company, the purchasing company takes over responsibility for payment of claims. 

    For Group Disability Insurance, payments are covered by the company issuing the policy, under the jurisdiction of ERISA.
