    The only situations that might fall into that criteria would be  if you worked for the federal government (small joke). No you are not obligated to comply with your employers group health plan. Although if you are not covered as a dependent under someone elses health plan or you do not have a individual policy, then you should really consider crunching the numbers and running a cost-benefit analysis against the group health plan being offered- the benefits, the cost, and your M.A.G.I. and your tollerance for bearing the financial burden that would be generally related to your level of risk exposure.
