Most health insurance programs will not cover the reversal of any voluntary sterilizations. You may have to pay for the procedure out of pocket. The expenses are tax deductible, which may reduce the total net expense.

IVF is a frequent alternative to tubal reversal, and is sometimes covered by insurance. Eight states have mandates requiring certain plans to cover IVF expenses.

Your other alternative is to purchase a plan with a higher actuarial value (platinum or gold plan). That way more of your pregnancy-related health care will be covered. In addition, you should purchase short term disability to replace income during maternity leave. This needs to start prior to conception.
