    It might, yes.  Talk to your Insurance Professional about your particular policy, and ask if you have an option that covers damage as a result of the backup or failure of sewers or drains.  If you have that option in your Homeowners policy, then the damage that would result of such a failure of a sump pump would be covered.  There may be coverage limitations, or maximum amounts, and of course it would be subject to your deductible.

    Mechanical items in the home are rarely covered by a homeowner’s policy. Normal wear and tear is not what a homeowner’s policy is designed to do. A homeowner’s policy is designed to pay for damage to your property that comes from specified perils. Failure of a pump doesn’t sound like damage to me.
