A Personal Injury Endorsement is an amendment that can be applied to your Homeowners, Condo Unit owners or Renter's insurance policy.  The basic Liability coverage provided in these forms protect you in the event that you are responsible for the physical injury of another or damage somone else' property.  Personal injury is different in that it does not refer to physical injury of another or property damage, but extends protection for you in the event you are accused of slander, false arrest, defamation and the like.  In other words, injuries that you are accused of causing that do not affect the body of another opr their property.

Tom has given you a good answer and indirectly brought attention to one hidden values of insurance which is defense costs. Most personal insurance policies auto home and umbrella usually provide defense from others who bring suit against you. It of course has to relate to a coverage in the policy. So in the personal injury coverage it would need to relate to libel , slander and the like as Tom says. But typically you do not have to buy separate defense costs it is usually just part of the policy and a very important feature at that.

In the real world personal injury is usually something you can avoid by keeping out of other peoples business. Remember that the best defense to libel or slander is that the what you said or have written about someone else is completely true. If it is strictly your opinion or something you could never prove true, save your self the aggravation and don't say it or write it.
