Your group life insurance generally speaking does not require underwriting meaning no lab work is needed.  The exception might be if you go over the guaranteed coverage amount.

If you do have to get lab work completed, then first would be to admit on the application you smoke marijuana.  Insurance companies do not automatically decline you for smoking marijuana but if you don't admit it, all bets are off.

As far as your employer finding out, it is unlikely they will unless they are involved in the process.

If the insurance company finds THC in your system will you lose current coverage and will the employer find out?  Yes, No, maybe?  It will depend on what it says in the group contract for the life insurance or individual plan.  Usually existing coverage wouldn't be taken away, but it will depend on the terms inside the policies sold.  As far as your employer finding out, you should have some protection or confidentiality, but it will depend on what is stated inside the plans. If you are worried about your employer finding out about your private life, avoid using a program that requires testing.
