Where you should buy Term Life is from an independent life insurance broker. What type depends on a number of factors: what you want the coverage to cover, for how long, is there a chance you would want to convert the coverage to permanent. I suggest you contact an independent life insurance broker who can give you a quote after discussing what the coverage is needed for. Do not forget to ask what are your options when the term renews.

If you have further questions, or feel that I could be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you would like to work with a local life insurance broker, you could start with a Google search. For example, if you search for: life insurance broker Halifax or life insurance agent Halifax, my name, along with several others, will come up. You can use the same method to find a life insurance broker in your community.

There are lots of places to buy term life insurance. Most are tempted to buy online. This can be a mistake as a lot of quoting sites are really known as lead sites. These sites will give you a quote usually at the "best preferred rate" which approximately 5% of the population can qualify for. Then they will sell your information to multiple agents who will "blow up" your phone to "sell" you over the phone "their" products. I would suggest shopping for a good independent life insurance broker who will go out and find the best product at the best price for your unique situation. Start by asking your friends, neighbors and co-workers for a good recommendation of agents they know.

You should buy term life insurance from an independent agent because they can review options from multiple companies. Captive agents generally only offer you their company first before looking at other options.

Some people prefer to buy online so they "don't have to be bothered" with the process of buying insurance. However, this can often result in you not getting the best product for your needs because you don't know what risk class you would qualify for from each company. Each carrier has their own underwriting guidelines and not every company is going to offer you the same risk class - e.g. company A could offer preferred and company B could offer standard. Online instant quotes only provide numbers based off of given criteria and there's no guarantee you would qualify for it - in short, they are just rough estimates.

You need to understand what risk class you would most likely qualify for from each company before applying - simply put, not everyone gets the preferred plus rates (which is what many people will quote themselves when running instant online quotes). Also, applying to multiple companies at the same time can often work against you.

Independent agents can help you through every step of the process in great detail and provide you with much more accurate quotes than what you may be looking at on your own.

Ditto what Jason said. In other words, you want to buy from an independent agent and you do not want to buy from a captive agent (an agent who can only sell one company's insurance). Before you contact an independent agent, use an online life insurance quoting site to compare rates. That way you will be prepared for the conversation and forearmed against being sold the wrong product for your needs or more insurance than suits your situation.
