The Federal program known as Medicare does not have comprehensive prescription coverage. Medicare Part A covers hospitalization and Medicare Part B covers doctors visits. Medicare Part D is the prescription drug coverage and Medicare Part C is a plan that combines Parts A & B (and often D) into one plan. Both Parts C & D are run by private insurance companies which contract with the Federal government to offer these plans.
