    Medicare will pay for a colonoscopy once every 10 years for those who are not considered high risk for colon cancer. If a flexible sigmoidoscopy is performed, a colonoscopy cannot be done for at least another 4 years. If a person is at high risk for colon cancer, Medicare will pay for a colonoscopy every 2 years.
