Colorado as a state does not require you to have renters insurance.  However, many apartments & homes alike which are available to rent may require you to have renters insurance.

This kind of insurance is very affordable and is recommended for everyone who rents.  Be sure to look at the policy however.  I would recommend getting the insurance which gives you replacement value vs. current value.  Will cost you a little more but well worth it.
