    Social Security is a supplemental retirement plan.  It is generally not advised that one plan to use social security as his or her sole retirement plan.  

    Originally Social Security was designed to be an income plan for people who had lived extraordinarily long and were at a stage in life where working became extremely difficult if not physically impossible.
