Did you know there are millions of dollars from life insurance policies that have not been claimed?

The good news is there is a way to find old life insurance policies.  Go to MIB.com...  I believe in the upper right corner it says something like, "find lost policy".  Click on it.  Follow the instructions.   There is a small fee for this so be prepared.

I always like to tell my clients to be sure to let your family, lawyer and or beneficiaries where those documents are.  Or put that information in your will or other documents which will be looked at upon death.

You can search for a life insurance policy by looking through the deceased person's financial records, checking out places they might hide documents, asking their family members if they mentioned purchasing life insurance, contacting a local agent they may have used, or calling insurance companies that you know they liked. You do not have to find a hard copy of the policy to collect the death benefit. After a few years, the policy may show up as unclaimed property on state notices.
