Medicare will cover a TENS unit, but under a specific set of circumstances.  According to the Medicare guidelines, “A Trans-cutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator (TENS) is covered for the treatment of patients with chronic, intractable pain or acute post operative pain.

Further documentation requires that medical records document the location, duration and etiology of the chronic pain.

Durable medical equipment has very specific guidelines to be covered under Medicare.  Make sure you check first or you could be paying a lot of money out of your own pocket.
